En una primera etapa, utilizando aguas residuales de un reactor anaerobio industrial, se estudia la posibilidad de eliminar conjuntamente dqo y nitr\u00f3geno en una \u00fanica unidad de modo que se prueba la coexistencia de microorganismos capaces de llevar a cabo la metanog\u00e9nesis en ambientes en los que se encuentra presente el nitrato o el nitrito una vez estos han sido consumidos por los organismos desnitrificantes. En una segunda etapa se eval\u00faa la eliminaci\u00f3n secuencial de carbono y nitr\u00f3geno en un reactor h\u00edbrido uasb-fa dividido en dos zonas encontr\u00e1ndose que la fuente de carbono generada en la primera etapa de digesti\u00f3n anaerobia es adecuada para su utilizaci\u00f3n en el posterior proceso de desnitrificaci\u00f3n. En una tercera etapa, se procede a poner en marcha tres reactores, anaerobio (uasb), desnitrificante (fa) y nitrificante (lodos activos,) de forma individual. una vez obtenidas las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n deseadas se procede a su conexi\u00f3n logrando eliminar tanto la mayor parte de la dqo como del nitr\u00f3geno presente en un agua residual procedente de cocederos de at\u00fan. La conexi\u00f3n se realiza de modo que el efluente del reactor anaerobio cargado en dqo y nitr\u00f3geno se introduce en la unidad desnitrificante como fuente de carbono mientras que el nitrato y nitrito aportados a esta unidad proced\u00edan de la unidad nitrificante. El efluente del reactor desnitrificante con carga amoniacal y baja dqo se introduce en la unidad nitrificante. Se ensayaron distintas condiciones de operaci\u00f3n trabajando con efluentes de alta y baja carga y con diferentes relaciones de recirculaci\u00f3n entre los reactores
