En este proceso las c\u00e9lulas vegetales acumulan iones t\u00f3xicos en la vacuola para evitar su interacci\u00f3n con los enzimas en soluci\u00f3n, y solutos compatibles u osmolitos en el citoplasma. Los osmolitos son compuestos de bajo peso molecular que se acumulan en grandes concentraciones sin afectar al metabolismo, manteniendo el balance h\u00eddrico celular y en muchos casos (osmoportectores) protegiendo a prote\u00ednas y l\u00edpidos frente al estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico, salino, t\u00e9rmico, etc. Facilitando su estabilizaci\u00f3n.  la trehalosa es un disac\u00e1rido no reductor (1-a-d-glucopiranosil-1-a-d-glucopiranosido) y osmoprotector que se encuentra presente en diferentes organismos, aunque no en la mayor\u00eda de las especies vegetales superiores, y que diversos estudios han relacionado con la tolerancia al estr\u00e9s t\u00e9rmico e h\u00eddrico en levadura.  la s\u00edntesis de trehalosa en saccharomyces cerevisiae se produce a tr\u00e1ves del complejo enzim\u00e1tico trehalosa-6-fosfato sintetasa (tps1)\/fosfatasa (tps2), siendo el paso limitante el catalizado por la subunidad tps1. Este enzima interviene adem\u00e1s en el metabolismo de la levadura controlando el flujo de glucosa en la glicolisis y regulando otros sistemas de respuesta a estr\u00e9s t\u00e9rmico y osm\u00f3tico a nivel transcripcional.  rel objetivo principal del presente trabao era mejorar la tolerancia de las plantas a los estreses h\u00eddrico y salino mediante la expresi\u00f3n, en nicotiana tabacum. Del gen tps1 (trehalosa-6-fosfato sintetasa) de saccharomyces cerevisiae, implicado en diversos mecanismos de tolerancia a estr\u00e9s en levadura y responsable de la s\u00edntesis del osmolito trehalosa. Adem\u00e1s se pretend\u00eda profunizar en los mecanismos de tolerancia a estr\u00e9s salino en levadura mediados por tps1 y estudiar las posibles implicaciones de su expresi\u00f3n en el metabolismo
