En primer lugar se afronta el problema de la caracterizaci\u00f3n y clasificaci\u00f3n de texturas binarias, se define una distancia entre modelos unidimensionales y se establecen varios criterios de clasificaci\u00f3n. Posteriormente, la extensi\u00f3n a im\u00e1genes en niveles de gris se realiza considerando para cada imagen un conjunto de capas binarias que son extra\u00eddas a partir de la imagen original. Tambien en este caso se consideran varios criterios distintos de clasificaci\u00f3n. A continuaci\u00f3n, se aborda el problema de la caracterizaci\u00f3n de texturas contenidas en \u00e1reas con forma irregular empleando el m\u00e9todo propuesto y se introduce un m\u00e9todo sistem\u00e1tico para medir de forma cuantitativa el poder discriminante de distinos m\u00e9todos de caracterizaci\u00f3n de texturas. Finalmente, nuestro enfoque es comparado con tres m\u00e9todos bien conocidos para el an\u00e1lisis de texturas, como son: la transformada wavelet con estructura de arbol, las matrices de concurrencia
