Las dos tragedias han sido publicadas solo dos veces hasta hoy (en 1772 y 1889) y esta es la primera vez que se lleva a cabo su edicion critica. Para ello, se han utilizado cuatro testimonios manuscritos para la alejandra y cinco para la isabela.  en los seis capitulos del estudio se analizan la tradicion critica sobre las dos obras, sus fuentes latinas e italianas, y la elocucion de los dialogos en relacion a la produccion poetica de argensola.
