Debido a su importancia en el metabolismo de la glucosa, se ha propuesto que un defecto de este enzima podria participar en la patogenia de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Se ha observado una dsiminuci\u00f3n de la actividad enzim\u00e1tica de la mgdh en islotes pancre\u00e1ticos de algunos modelos animales (ratas nstz ygk) de dm2, asi como en donantes afectos de esta enfermedad. La primera parte de esta tesis describe que tal disminuci\u00f3n es debida a una reducci\u00f3n proteica del enzima. No es causa de la hiperglicemia per se aunque se restableceen ratas nstz cuando su glicemia se normaliza. en la segunda parte de esta tesis se intenta investigar la importancia de este enzima de la patogenia de la diabtes tipol. Se han detectado anticuerpos dirigidos contra este enzima en el 27% de los sueros de pacientes con diabetes tipo. Mientras que no se observan anticuerpos en los pacientes con diabetes tipo 2 ni a sus respectivos controles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral \u00ab<strong>Glicerol
