Para tal fin se realiz\u00f3 un programa experimental que se encuentra dividido en dos partes principales.  en la primera parte se estudiaron las variables geom\u00e9tricas del \u00e1rido grueso. Se emplearon hormigones con \u00e1ridos de diferente tama\u00f1o m\u00e1ximo (10 mm, 12.5 mm, 20mm y 25 mm), forma (redondeada y angulosa) y granulometr\u00eda (continua y uniforme). La segunda parte se centr\u00f3 en evaluar la influencia de la intercara \u00e1rido-matriz en la respuesta del hormig\u00f3n en fractura. se trata de inducir en el material dos modos de rotura diferentes; rotura a trav\u00e9s de las part\u00edculas del \u00e1rdio grueso, o rotura transgranular y, rotura a trav\u00e9s de la intercara \u00e1rido-matriz, o rotura intergranular. Para ello se modific\u00f3 la calidad de la intercara aplicando diferentes tipos de tratamientos. Bajo estos dos modos de rotura se estudiaron tambi\u00e9n la incidencia de la forma del \u00e1rido, su volumen relativo y la resistencia de la matriz sobre el comportamiento en fractura del hormig\u00f3n.  se realizaron ensayos de fractura (flexi\u00f3n en tres puntos y brasile\u00f1os) de los hormigones elaborados con fin de determinar los par\u00e1metros de la funci\u00f3n de ablandamiento. Complementariamente se realizaron tambi\u00e9n ensayos de compresi\u00f3n simple para la determinaci\u00f3n de la resistencia a la comprensi\u00f3n y del m\u00f3dulo de elasticidad.  se han considerado que el comportamiento en fractura del hormig\u00f3n se puede describir adcuadamente mediante le modelo de fisura cohesiva. Se ha aproximado la funci\u00f3n  de ablandamiento mediante una curva bilineal, muy utilizada en la literatura para este tipo de materiales.  adem\u00e1s se ha realizado un an\u00e1lisis de las superficies de rotura obtenidas en los ensayos de flexi\u00f3n en tres puntos.
