Se centra en el estudio de la relacion entre las propiedades mesogenas y ferroelectricas y la estructura quimica del material. El primer objetivo es el estudio del sistema benceno-naftaleno como unidad mesogena con puente central ester y cuatro cadenas quirales diferentes. El sistema benzoato proporciona mejores propiedades que el naftoato.  el analisis de las posiciones de los sustituyentes en el anillo de naftaleno revela que las geometrias lineales dan lugar a propiedades mesogenas y ferroelectricas frente a las no lineales. Las cadenas quirales tipo carboxilato unidas a sistemas benzoato dan lugar a la aparicion de nuevos fenomenos ferri y antiferroelectricos asi como a la aparicion del estado vitreo. La espectroscopia dielectrica resulta una tecnica muy util en la caracterizacion de estos fenomenos. La introduccion de un puente de hidrogeno intramolecular en las estructuras estudiadas en esta tesis empeora las propiedades mesogenas. El tercer objetivo de esta memoria era el estudio del sistema dador-aceptor hidroxi-nitro en el dise\u00f1o de c.L.F.
