Por una parte se pretendi\u00f3 el desarrollo de una filogenia molecular del g\u00e9nero de hongos liquenizados physconia, ampliamente representado en la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica tanto en la variedad de especies como en el n\u00famero de poblaciones, la cual permitiese evaluar los conocimientos existentes sobre la sistem\u00e1ticas y evoluci\u00f3n de este grupo. Por otra, se pretendi\u00f3 describir y analizar la variabilidad en intrones en el gen de la subunidad peque\u00f1a ribos\u00f3mica nuclear.  en cuanto a la filogenia del g\u00e9nero, se obtuvo la secuencia de las regiones its ribos\u00f3micas en individuos de 14 de las aproximadamente 20 especies del g\u00e9nero. La reconstrucci\u00f3n filogen\u00e9tica permiti\u00f3 establecer las relaciones de estas especies, estableciendo que physconia thompsonii pertenece en realidad al g\u00e9nero anaptychia y que el g\u00e9nero puede ser dividido en tres agrupaciones principales, tal y como es propuesto por ciertos autores. otras propuestas sin embargo han sido desmentidas, como las que establecen una mayor separaci\u00f3n de p. Grisea. Los caracteres morfol\u00f3gicos asociados con el cortex inferior aparecen como los m\u00e1s informativos desde el punto de vista evolutivo, mientras que el resto de caracteres cr\u00edticos en la sistem\u00e1tica del g\u00e9nero habr\u00edan aparecido en diversas ocasiones. Solo p. perisidiosa y p.Venusta aparecen como posible \u00abpares de especies\u00bb.  en cuanto a los intrones presentes en la ssu rdna nuclear, se han caracterizados 17 localizaciones diferentes de inserci\u00f3n, correspondiendo 10 de ellas a intrones de tipo  i y 7 de ellas a intrones espliceosomales.
