Para la eliminacion de carbono y nitrogeno se propone un reactor anaerobio de alta carga, en donde eliminar la mayor parte de la materia organica, seguido de un reactor aerobio en donde llevar a cabo la nitrificacion. la recirculacion del efluente nitrificado hasta el reactor anaerobio permitira la desnitrificacion en el propio reactor anaerobio sin necesidad de a\u00f1adir una fuente de carbono adicional. El tratamiento en reactores anaerobios granulares de lecho expandido (egsb) permite operar con elevadas velocidades de carga (15 kgdqo m-3 d-1), evitando la acumulacion de solidos suspendidos, que en reactores uasb provocaron problemas de estabilidad, y lavado de biomasa, incluso trabajando a velocidades de carga moderadas (&lt;6 kgdqo m-3 d-1) recomendadas para efluentes de similares caracteristicas. La integracion de metanogenesis y desnitrificacion en el reactor egsb permite mantener rendimientos de eliminacion de materia organica importantes (60%) y de desnitrificacion (-100%),sin apreciarse procesos de reduccion disasimilatoria hasta amonio, con velocidades de carga de 20 kgdqo m-3 d-1 y 1,4 kgnox m-3 d-1. La metanogenesis no se ve afectada por la presencia de nitrito cuando la cantidad de microorganismos desnitrificantes en el fango granular es lo suficientemente elevada. El fango granular matiene valores elevados de actividad especifica metanogenica y desnitrificante. Asi, la tecnolog\u00eda egsb es adecuada para el tratamiento de estos efluentes, bien como pretratamiento o integrada con un reactor aerobio para la eliminacion de carbono y nitrogeno. el
