Consta, pues, de dos partes. En lo que respecta al texto, que es fuente fundamental para el conocimiento de este edificio, referencia inevitable y punto de partida de todos los estudios que lo abordan, tanto de los que tratan de la arquitectura y las artes como de los que se ocupan de la historia cultural y religiosa del reinado de felipe ii, se presenta una nueva versi\u00f3n del mismo, basada en la reelaboraci\u00f3n de la edici\u00f3n principe del a\u00f1o 1605 tras el cotejo con las posteriores, y en la incorporaci\u00f3n de todas las variantes que presenta el contenido de su versi\u00f3n manuscrita y aut\u00f3grafa, un borrador del texto definitivo que se conserva en la biblioteca del escorial.  el trabajo consiste, adem\u00e1s, en la presentaci\u00f3n anotada del texto reelaborado seg\u00fan estos criterios, con un aparato cr\u00edtico que aspira a proporcionar al lector las herramientas que permitan valorar sus contenidos, sobre todo los que reflejan las ideas arquitect\u00f3nicas y art\u00edsticas del autor. Tambi\u00e9n incluye una historia de su gestaci\u00f3n y de las circunstancias que la rodearon, y una valoraci\u00f3n de las relaciones que es posible establecer con el resto de la obra hist\u00f3rica de fray jos\u00e9 de sig\u00ed\u00bcenza y con otras descripciones coet\u00e1neas del edificio.  la investigaci\u00f3n sobre la biograf\u00eda de fray jos\u00e9 de sig\u00ed\u00bcenza revela aspectos fundamentales tanto de su formaci\u00f3n sobre c\u00f3mo, por qu\u00e9 y en qu\u00e9 circunstancias, relacionadas sobre todo con la situaci\u00f3n de la orden jer\u00f3nima durante la segunda mitad del siglo xvi y los primeros a\u00f1os del siglo xvii, se gest\u00f3 y tom\u00f3 cuerpo la idea de escribir una cr\u00f3nica de la misma que se ocupase, extensamente y con unos contenidos
