A pesar del enorme esfuerzo realizado para controlar las causas que determinan el efecto negativo del nacl sobre el crecimiento de las plantas, existen grandes interrogantes sobre las bases fisiol\u00f3gicas y bioqu\u00edmicas implicadas en la tolerancia a este factor. Por ello, el objetivo primario de este trabajo ha sido el estudio de los mecanismos de tolerancia al nacl que operan a nivel celular en un cultivo de tanto inter\u00e9s econ\u00f3mico como el tomate. En relaci\u00f3n con ello, el modelo experimental utilizado en este trabajo consisti\u00f3 en l\u00edneas celulares de callos de tomate adaptadas a diferentes concentraciones de nacl o bien sometidas a un estr\u00e9s por nacl.  los resultados obtenidos han permitido concluir que los sucesivos subcultivos de los callos de tomate en medios suplementados con nacl permiten el establecimiento de l\u00edneas celulares adaptadas a distintas concentraciones salinas, presentando los callos adaptados a 50 mm nacl una estimulaci\u00f3n del crecimiento y una mayor tolerancia a un estr\u00e9s salino que los callos controles.
