La infeccion afecta a bovidos de 3 dias a adultos, si bien es significativamente mas frecuente en terneros lactantes (53,8%), el 78,6% de los cuales padecia diarrea. En ganado porcino, la parasitacion afecta a cerdos de 1 a 6 meses, si bien la maxima receptividad se observa en lechones destetados (1-2 meses) (59,2%) y cursa de forma subclinica en el 75,9% de los mismos.  isospora suis es un agente etiologico frecuente de diarrea en lechones lactantes, afectando al 32,6%. Cabe destacar la deteccion de formas vacuolares de blastocystis sp. En el 1,8% del ganado vacuno y 11,6% del porcino. El estudio comparativo de tecnicas diagnosticas indica que la tecnica de inmunofluorescencia directa con anticuerpos monoclonales permite detectar mayor numero de animales infectados que la tincion de ziehl-neelsen modificada y es especialmente aconsejable cuando el numero de ooquistes en heces es escaso, mientras que la determinacion del titulo de inmunoglobulinas sericas anti-cryptosporidium (igg) mediante la tecnica de inmunofluorescencia indirecta no resulta adecuada para diagnosticar la infeccion por c.
