Kayser son los dos principales int\u00e9rpretes de esta categor\u00eda est\u00e9tica en nuestro siglo. lo grotesco ocupa durante siglos un lugar marginal en la historia del arte, pese a ser ampliamente explotado por los artistas en campos como la ornamentaci\u00f3n, la estampa o la caricatura. Hay un desfase entre la calidad del trabajo de esos autores, que supieron aprovechar la permisividad de lo marginal, y la definici\u00f3n de la categor\u00eda est\u00e9tica dentro de la teor\u00eda
