Se ha encontrado que el producto del gen orf2 del oper\u00f3n carbestablece con crtl una novedosa colaboraci\u00f3n para la deshidrogenaci\u00f3n de fitoeno, siendo responsable de su isomerizaci\u00f3n y de, al menos, la primera de sus deshidrogenaciones a fitoflueno. Se trata del primer caso de bacteria no fotosint\u00e9tica que convierte al cis-fitoeno en trans-licopeno con el concurso de dos enzimas diferentes. Se ha encontrado tambi\u00e9n que los productos de orf7 y orf8 del oper\u00f3n cara son necesarios y suficientes para la ciclaci\u00f3n de licopeno. Estos productos muestran similitudes con el segmento con actividad ciclasa de licpeno de unas prote\u00ednas bifuncionales ciclasa de licopeno-sintetasa de fitoeno descritas en algunos hongos. En este caso, son necesarios dos productos g\u00e9nicos distintos para realizar la funci\u00f3n que lleva a cabo un fragmento de una sola prote\u00edna en dichos hongos. En cuanto a funciones reguladoras, se ha demostrado la funci\u00f3n del orf10 del oper\u00f3n cara regulador negativo de la expresi\u00f3n de carb en la oscuridad, y su aparente no implicaci\u00f3n en la regulaci\u00f3n de otros genes car. As\u00ed mismo, se ha descartado a priori la participaci\u00f3n de orf11 en la regulaci\u00f3n de carb y de otros promotores car. Tanto orf10 como orf11 poseen un dominio de uni\u00f3n a dna tipo hth. Se ha demostrado la capacidad de uni\u00f3n de ambas prote\u00ednas al dna del promotor de carb, detect\u00e1ndose la posible formaci\u00f3n de varias asociaciones moleculares de ord10 y orf11 en dicha uni\u00f3n. Por otro lado, se ha encontrado en estas mismas prote\u00ednas un dominio de uni\u00f3n a vitamina b12, t\u00edpico de las enzimas que utilizan metilcobalamina como cofactor. Son las primeras prote\u00ednas descritas que presentan un motivo de uni\u00f3n a dna y a vitamina b12.
