En este transfondo, el presente estudio analiza las estrategias de marketing de la industria farmaceutica y sus consecuencias medico-sanitarias. Se describen las multiples actividades promocionales, particularmente las orientadas hacia el medico, haciendo enfasis en el rol atribuido a los visitadores y a los anuncios en revistas medicas.  asimismo, se evaluan las diversas fuentes de informacion sobre medicamentos asequibles, asi como los intentos de control sobre la publicidad farmaceutica. Se realiza una encuesta en recife\/brasil, con el proposito de verificar como el comportamiento de los productores se reflejaba en la practica de medicos, estudiantes de medicina, dependientes de farmacia y consumidores de medicamentos.  se constato un papel destacado de la industria como fuente de informacion e influencia sobre prescriptores-incluyendose entre ellos los dependientes de farmacia &#8211; y sobre pacientes. Los hallazgos se contextualizan en el marco de la politica de medicamentos de brasil, proponiendose al final una serie de medidas que posibilite la prescripcion, dispensacion y consumo mas racional de
