La estructura del polip\u00e9ptido deducido presente un posible dominio extracelular con repeticiones ricas en leucina (lrr), una zona hidrof\u00f3bica que podria corresponder a una region transmembrana y un dominio c-terminal que posee una elevada similitud con dominios quinasa de proteinas quinasas pero que presenta sustituciones aminoacidicas de especial relevancia. Para confirmar la capacidad de autofosforilacion de la proteina se llevaron a cabo experimentos de fosforilaci\u00f3n in vitro que indican que la proteina es incapaz de autofosforilarse. Ensayos de inmunodeteccion demuestran la presencia de prpk1, asi como de otra prote\u00edna de 37 kd, en embriones y endospermo de maiz a lo largo de toda la embriog\u00e9nesis. prpk1 es una proteina transmembrana e inmunodetecciones de 2d muestran la presencia de varias formas de prpk1 y de la proteina transmembrana e inmunodetecciones de 2d muestran la presencia de varias formas de prpk1 y de la proteina de 37 kd que podrian corresponder a distintos estados de fosforilacion. Inmunolocalizaciones realizadas sobre embrionies y meristemos indican que la acumulacion de prpk1 se encuentra asociada a zonas de activa proliferaci\u00f3n. Utilizando el sistema t.U.S.C(trait utility system for corn) se han obtenido individuos con una inserci\u00f3n del transpos\u00f3n mu en la regi\u00f3n promotora de prpk1 y individuos con una inserci\u00f3n en un intr\u00f3n de la regi\u00f3n codificante. En ning\u00fan caso se pudo correlacionar la presencia de la inserci\u00f3n con un posible fenotipo prpk1. La inserci\u00f3n en la region promotora no afecta al nivel de expresi\u00f3n del gen y la inserci\u00f3n en el intr\u00f3n podria tener un procesamiento normal.
