Si bien pese a los esfuerzos realizados las funciones de la mt no se hallan completamente elucidas, sabemos que la proteina se induce en tejidos perifericos en respuesta a varios factores entre los que cabe destacar, los metales, los glucocorticoides, las catecolaminas o el estres. Sin embargo, apenas existen antecedentes en la bibliografia del estudio de la regulacion de la mt en snc y por ello en el presente trabajo nos planteamos el estudio de los niveles y la regulacion de la mt en 8 areas cerebrales.  para ello analizamos los niveles citosolicos de mt mediante el uso de un ria o un elisa especificos para la mt.  los resultados obtenidos nos muestran que la mt cerebral presenta una distribucion heterogenea en las distintas areas cerebrales estudiadas, una regulacion diferenciada en snc y en tejido periferico y una induccion generalizada en respuesta al estres de inmobilizacion de larga duracion. Observamos ademas que tanto los glucocorticoides como las catecolaminas como el zn ejercen un papel en la regulacion de los niveles de mt cerebral si bien ni los glucocorticoides ni la transmision
