Los resultados obtenidos se compararon con los conseguidos al realizar la pcr en muestras provenientes de donantes de sangre sin ninguna disfunci\u00f3n neurol\u00f3gica. Como controles positivos externos se emplearon los genomas purificados de los virus estudiados; como controles positivos internos, la amplificaci\u00f3n del gen de la beta globina, y control negativo, agua en lugar de muestra. El apareamiento de las muestras se realiz\u00f3 teniendo en cuanta el sexo y la edad de los pacientes y de los donantes.  los resultados obtenidos nos mostraron que existia una diferencia estad\u00edsticamente significativa(p=0,0001)entre la preValencia de adn para el herpesvirus humano6(hvh6) en enfermos de esclerosis m\u00faltiple y el grupo control formado por donantes de sangre: 49,02% frente a un 21,57%.  esto nos lleva a concluir que hvh6 puede ser el factor ambiental desencadenante de la esclerosis m\u00faltiple.
