Se realizaron pruebas de compresi\u00f3n axial en las v\u00e9rtebras l2 y l3 para valorar su resistencia. los factores cuantitativos se valoraron con la tomograf\u00eda axial computadorizada cuantitativa (tacc) y la absorciometr\u00eda radiol\u00f3gica de energ\u00eda doble (dexa). los factores cualitativos se valoraron con la histomorfometr\u00eda del cilindro de cresta il\u00edaca. Para determinar el valor de predicci\u00f3n de ambos factores se realizaron correlaciones y regresiones por el m\u00e9todo escalonado entre los valores obtenidos en las pruebas mec\u00e1nicas, tomados como variable dependiente y la edad, tacc,dexa e histomorfometr\u00eda, como variables independientes.  las conclusiones fueron las siguientes:  1. La masa osea es el factor que predice mejor la resistencia mec\u00e1nica de la v\u00e9rtebra lumbar.  2. La tacc predice mejor que la dexa la resistencia mec\u00e1nica de la v\u00e9rtebra lumbar.  3. La histomorfometr\u00eda de cresta il\u00edaca tiene valor en la predicci\u00f3n de la resistencia vertebral cuando se asocia al contenido o densidad mineral \u00f3sea.  4. El hueso cortical de cresta il\u00edaca tiene mayor capacidad en la predicci\u00f3n de la resistencia que el trabecular.  5. Las v\u00e9rtebras de las personas mayores se deforman m\u00e1s antes de romperse que la de los j\u00f3venes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
