Esta enzima,que llamaremos pmqr ( del ingl\u00e9s, plasma membrane coenzyme q reductase), cataliza dicha reducci\u00f3n con participaci\u00f3n del nadh, as\u00ed como del nadh, mediante un mecanismo de un electr\u00f3n conla consecuente formaci\u00f3n del radial semiquinona. en dicha reacci\u00f3n de reducci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n juega un papel muy importante el radical super\u00f3xido, el cual reacciona conel coq oxidado estableciendo un equilibrio con el par semiquinona\/oxigeno, contribuyendo as\u00ed a la reducci\u00f3n del coq.  la semiquinona generada durante la acci\u00f3n catal\u00edtica de la pmqr, as\u00ed como la posterior formaci\u00f3n de coq reducido,participan en la reducci\u00f3n de los radicales tocoferoxilo y afr ( radical libre del ascorbato ) para la regeneraci\u00f3n de las vitaminas e y c, respectivamente, disminuyendo de esta forma los requerimientos nutricionales para ambas vitaminas en aquellos organismos que no la sintetizan ( todos los organismos animales en el caso de la vitamina e, y en cerdos, cobayas y humanos, por ejemplo, en el caso de la vitamina c).  asimismo, se propone un delicado y complejo equilibrio entre las distintas mol\u00e9culas antioxidantes en la membrana plasm\u00e1tica de c\u00e9lulas aniales, las cuales est\u00e1n compensadas unas con otras, y en donde la pmqr participa como elemento modulador, mediante la
