En estas celulas tiene lugar un fenomeno de transmodulacion inducido por los factores de crecimiento sobre el receptor de somatostatina.  el factor de crecimiento egf y la hormona gastrina inducen un aumento en el numero de receptores de somatostatina a nivel de membrana; asi mismo, este incremento se traduce en un incremento de los niveles de rnam del receptor de somatostatina tipo ii (sstr2). El neuropeptido bombesina inhibe el crecimiento basal de las celulas ar4-2j, y tambien el estimulado por egf.
