Tan solo la tercera parte fueron sensibles a todos los antimicrobianos estudiados. La especie m\u00e1s frecuentemente aislada fue s.Mitis seguido de s.Anginosus, s.Sanguis, s.Salivarius y s.Mutans. S.Mitis present\u00f3 los indices de resistencia antibiotica m\u00e1s elevados, siendo s.Anginosus el grupo con mayor sensibilidad a los mismos. Un tercio de los aislamientos de sgv fueron resistentes a la peniclina, y estos mostraron una sensibilidad disminuida a los 22 antibioticos b-lactamicos estudiados. El imipenem fue el mas activo, seguido de la cefpiroma, fk-037, cefditoren, cefotaxima, ceftriaxona y cefepima, que mostraron una actividad mejor o similar a la penicilina. Aunque el porcentaje de sgv resistentes a la penicilina permanecio estable o incluso descendio ligeramente a lo largo de los a\u00f1os (1984-97), se observ\u00f3 un aumento progresivo de los aislamientos resistentes a las cefalosporinas y macrolidos. Todos los aislamientos de sgv estudiados fueron sensibles ala vancomicina, y ninguno presento resistencia elevada a la gentamicina. La detecci\u00f3n de la resistencia a la penicilina y cefotaxima en sgv puede realizarse de una forma fiable, r\u00e1pida y economica mediante el metodo de difusion en agar con discos de penicilina y ceftizoxima, respectivamente.  en los pacientes neutrop\u00e9nicos con cancer se ha observado un incremento de la bacteriemia por sgv con resistencia elevada a la penicilina, siendo el mayor factor de riesgo la administracion previa de antibioticos b-lactamicos y macrolidos, que fue superior al detectado en el resto de los pacientes. todos los aislamientos resistentes a la eritromicina mostraron resistencia cruzada con los macrolidos de 14 atomos (claritromicina,, roxitromicina y diritromicina) y 15 atomos (azitromicina).
