En el primer cap\u00edtulo se realiza un an\u00e1lisis hist\u00f3rico del peurto, desde sus inicios hasta nuestros d\u00edas, analizando sus distintas etapas y la incidencia que tuvieron en el desarrollo de la ciudad. En el segundo cap\u00edtulo se describen aspectos tales como las limitaicones de acceso al puerto, su funci\u00f3n comercial, industrial, log\u00edstica y su incidencia en el desarrollo urbano, su hinterland y su foreland. En el cap\u00edtulo tercero se estudian los tr\u00e1ficos del puerto de sevilla en las tres \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, siempre en comparaci\u00f3n con los restantes puertos competidores del subsistema portuario andaluza. En el cap\u00edtulo cuarto, se ha vinculado el funcionamiento del puerto con el desarrollo econ\u00f3mico de su entorno mediante un estudio de impacto del puerto sobre la econom\u00eda provincial y regional. La metodolog\u00eda aplicada es la propuesta por la consultora tema para el ente p\u00fablico puertos del estado. Por \u00faltimo, en el cap\u00edtulo quinto, se analizan los proyectos de inversi\u00f3n m\u00e1s importantes para el puerto de sevilla; el dragado de la r\u00eda y la construcci\u00f3n de una nueva esclusa. Se utiliza para ello, la metodolog\u00eda establecida en el manuel de evaluaci\u00f3n de inversiones en puertos de la direcci\u00f3n general de puertos.
