Sin embargo, el car\u00e1cter vectorial de la luza aparece de manera natural en diversas aplicaciones pr\u00e1cticas que hacen necesaria una descripci\u00f3nconjunta de la estructura espacial y de polarizaci\u00f3n del haz. Por tanto, parece adecuado establecer un formalismo que permita relacionar las caracter\u00edsticas globales puramente espaciales del haz, consideradas para el caso escalar (anchura, divergencia o calidad), y las polarizaci\u00f3n (grado de polarizaci\u00f3n, distribuci\u00f3n espacial o \u00e9sta).  sigueindo esta idea, se aborda en esta memoria, por una parte, la caracterizaci\u00f3n global de la polarizaci\u00f3n de haces de luz parcialmente jpolarizados (incluyendo haces conpolarizaci\u00f3n no homog\u00e9nea en su secci\u00f3n transversal), y, por otra, se analiza la evoluci\u00f3n espacila de este tipo de haces a trav\u00e9s de sistemas \u00f3pticos de primer orden as\u00ed como de elementos que modifica el estado de polarizaci\u00f3n de la luz.
