Las plantas deficientes desarrollan mecanismos dirigidos a aumentar la capacidad de adquisici\u00f3n del hierro del medio. En este trabajo se han estudiado los cambios bioqu\u00edmicos inducidos por la deficiencia de fe en los procesos de adquisici\u00f3n y transporte de este elemento en plantas pertenecientes a la estrategia i, que comprende a las dicotiledoneas y monocotiled\u00f3neas no gram\u00edneas. Se ha utilizado como planta modelo la remolacha.  las puntas de ra\u00edz de remolacha deficiente en fe presentaron un engrosamiento subapical de color amarillo debido a la acumulaci\u00f3n de flavinas, as\u00ed como un aumento del n\u00famero de pelos radiculares en estas zonas. La deficiencia de fe indujo un aumento de 11 veces en la actividad reductasa f\u00e9rrica y de 4 veces en la capacidad de acidificaci\u00f3n del medio, respuestas t\u00edpicas de las raices de las plantas de estrategia i.  la concentraci\u00f3n de \u00e1cidos org\u00e1nicos y las actividades de diversos enzimas relacionados con la s\u00edntesis y metabolismo de estos compuestos aumentaron en las secciones amarillas de las puntas de ra\u00edz deficientes, indicando un aumento de la capacidad de fijar carbono, via fosfoenol piruvato carboxilasa, inducido por la deficiencia de fe. Adem\u00e1s, la deficiencia de fe produjo un aumento en la concentraci\u00f3n de nucle\u00f3tidos de piridina, atp, quinonas y en la tasa de consumo de ox\u00edgeno, surgiriendo la existencia de un aumento en la actividad mitocondrial en estas secciones amarillas, que proporcionar\u00eda poder reductor para la reductasa f\u00e9rrica.  la concentraci\u00f3n de \u00e1cidos org\u00e1nicos tambi\u00e9n aument\u00f3 en xilema y fluido apopl\u00e1stico de hoja apoyando la existencia de un aumento en el flujo de c desde las ra\u00edces hasta las hojas de las plantas deficientes.
