Uno de los compuestos que pede metablizar esta cepa  es el p-hidroxibenzoato, liberado al medio ambiente como producto de desecho por parte de numerosas industrias qu\u00edmicas y farmac\u00e9uticas, siendo muy t\u00f3xico para la mayor parte de los organismos vivos. En este trabajo, se han caracterizado tres genes relacionados con el metabolismo degradativo de p-hidroxibenzoato, que se denominaron pcar, pcak y pacaf. El gen pacak se demostr\u00f3 que codificabauna prote\u00edna pcak encargada del trasnporte de p-hidroxibenzoato hacia el citoplasma celulara para su degradaci\u00f3n posterior por parte de los productos de los genes pca. El gen pcar codificaba una prote\u00edna reguladora del ciclo de degrdaci\u00f3n de este compuesto arom\u00e1tico, que se denomin\u00f3 ciclo del b-cetoadipato puesto que este compuesto se sintetizaba como producto intermediario de dicho ciclo. Finalmente, el producto del gen pcaf catalizaba la conversi\u00f3n del b-cetoadipil-coa en intermediarios del ciclo de los \u00e1cidos tricarbox\u00edlicos, no liber\u00e1ndose ning\u00fan compuesto xenobi\u00f3tico recalcitrante durante este proceso.  mediante la construcci\u00f3n de mutantes deficientes en el gen pcak y posterior caracterizaci\u00f3n fenot\u00edpica de los mismos, pudeo demostrarse el papel fundamental del trasnportador pcak en la incorporaci\u00f3n de p-hidroxibenzoato a la c\u00e9lula, en especial a ph alcalinos, no apreci\u00e1ndose diferencias respecto a la estirpe silvestres cuando las c\u00e9lulas se cultivaron en medios m\u00ednimos enriquecidos consuccinato, glucosa o benzoato. Los experimentos de rt-pcr demostraron que los tres genes se transcrib\u00edan independientemente unos de otros, formando tres unidades transcripcionales distintas y tres arnm distintos.
