Alrededor de un 10% de la concentraci\u00f3n total de zinc del cerebro se encuentra en forma libre o en uni\u00f3n l\u00e1bil dentro de ves\u00edculas sin\u00e1pticas redondas y claras que hacen contactos de tipo asim\u00e9trico preferentemente con espinas dendr\u00edticas. A estos terminales se les ha llamado terminales ricos en zinc y pertenecen a un grupo de neuronas glutamat\u00e9rgicas. Este zinc denominado zinc vesicular es detectable mediante metodos histoquimicos, que pueden ser aplicados tanto para la microscopia optica como para la electronica. Los terminales ricos en zinc son particularmente abundatnes en el neocortex, el hipocampo, la amigdala, los ganglios basales, el septum i el bulbo olfativo. El zinc es secretado de los terminales de manera similar a como lo hace un neurotransmisor. El objetivo general de esta tesis doctoral es el estudio de los circuitos neuronales ricos en zinc de la corteza cerebral de la rata. Para la identificaci\u00f3n de estos circuitos se han utilizado mayoritariamente el selenito sodico como trazador retr\u00f3grado. El selenito s\u00f3dico es administrado intracerebralmente en diferentes regiones de las areas corticales visuales de la rata. Durante una supervivencia de 24 horas, se forman en los terminales sin\u00e1pticos ricos en zinc un precipitado insoluble de zinc y selenio que es transportado de manera retrograda hasta los correspondientes somos neuronales. En esta tesis se ha identificado que las neuronas que dan origen a los terminales sin\u00e1pticos ricos en zinc de la corteza cerebral se encuentran mayoritariamente en la misma corteza cerebral, con una peque\u00f1a proporcion de neruronas en el claustro y en la amigdala. Las neuronas corticales ricas en zinc se encuentran distribuidas en las capas ii-iii y vi de todas las areas corticales, y una peque\u00f1a proporci\u00f3n en la capa v.
