Sin embargo, la conexina 26 no se proteoliza por estas proteasas. Las calpainas parecen hidrolizar la conexina-32 en su extremo c-terminal.  la fosforilacion de la conexina-32 por proteina quinasa c, pero no por proteina quinasa a, inhibe la proteolisis por calpaina. Esta proteccion frente a la proteolisis parece hacerse extensiva a moleculas vecinas de conexina-32 no fosforiladas presentes en la misma placa de uniones comunicantes.  la union de la calmodulina a la conexina-32 inhibe tambien la proteolisis por m-calpaina pero no por mi-calpaina, lo que sugiere que estas proteasas poseen distintas dianas de reconocimiento y\/o de hidrolisis en la molecula de conexina-32.  proponemos que la proteolisis de la conexina-32 por calpaina podria ser relevante en el desensamblaje y degradacion de las uniones comunicantes \u00abin vivo\u00bb, y que la fosforilacion por proteina quinasa c y la union de la calmodulina a la molecula de conexina podrian prevenir la degradacion de la conexina-32 por proteasas
