Dentro de estas, la subfamilia  1 o vlas contiene receptores que intervienen tanto en la union a proteinas de la matriz extracelular como en interacciones celula-celula. Hemos investigado el papel que la cadena  1 comun puede tener en la regulacion de la funcion de dichos receptores mediante la utilizacion del anticuerpo monoclonal anti- 1 ts2\/16, que es capaz de aumentar \u00abin vitro\u00bb la union de distintos heterodimeros vla a sus ligandos. Dicho anticuerpo regula la funcion de dichos receptores mediante la induccion de una conformacion de alta afinidad en el heterodimero.  esta conformacion activa de los receptores  1 se detecta tambien \u00abin vivo\u00bb en linfocitos de infiltrados inflamatorios de distintas patolog\u00edas tales como artritis reumatoide. De hecho, distintas citoquinas son capaces de inducir la expresion de dicha conformacion activa. Por otra parte, la cadena  1 es tambien capaz de regular la morfolog\u00eda y el desplegamiento celular sobre distintos sustratos. Ademas, la union de los receptores  1 a sus ligandos induce se\u00f1ales intracelulares de fosforilacion en tirosina de distintas proteinas. Estas se\u00f1ales intracelulares se estudian tambien para receptores pertenecientes a la subfamilia  2 de las integrinas asi como para su ligando icam-3. Se observa que el entrecruzamiento de estos receptores es capaz de inducir fosforilacion en tirosina de distintos sustratos celulares.
