De tocqueville en \u00abla democracia en america\u00bb, se plantea la hipotesis de leerle como filosofo politico. Desde esta \u00f3ptica, se trata de explicitar los principales supuestos normativos de su concepci\u00f3n de la democracia moderna. En la primera parte, se analiza su visi\u00f3n del \u00abhomo demacraticus\u00bb y se concluye que, tras su critica al individualismo, se encuentra una antroponom\u00eda de corte humanista interesada sobre todo en perfeccionamiento moral de la ciudadan\u00eda mediante la participaci\u00f3n en lo p\u00fablico. En la segunda se estudia su teoria sobre la problem\u00e1tica relacion entre la igualdad y la libertad concluy\u00e9ndose que se articulaci\u00f3n justa es necesaria para que la democracia liberal no degenere en el \u00abdespotismo democratico\u00bb (la \u00abtirania de la mayoria\u00bb,el \u00abpaternalismo del estado-providencia\u00bbetc), lo cual pasa por no confundir la igualdad con \u00abla pasion igualitaria\u00bb ni la libertad con la \u00abdogmatica liberista\u00bb de la independencia privada. En la tercera, se resalta su reivindicacion a favor del protagonismo de la sociedad civil como argumento para una profundizaci\u00f3n republicana de la democracia liberal. Por todo ello, se concluye que la filosofia politica tocquevillina constituye una valiosa fuente de inspiracion para cuestionar la concepcion elitista de la democracia y avanzar en la
