La tesis doctoral consiste en un estudio de la base molecular de la respuesta del garbanzo (cicer arietinum l. Var castellana) al d\u00e9ficit h\u00eddrico,y de la inhibici\u00f3n del crecimiento que tiene lugar en estas condiciones.  los objetivos perseguidos fueron:  -identificaci\u00f3n de genes cuya expresi\u00f3n se induce por las condiciones de estr\u00e9s  -identificaci\u00f3n de genes cuya expresi\u00f3n se inhibe cuando el crecimiento est\u00e1 inhibido por las condiciones de estr\u00e9s y que, por tanto, pueden estar relacionados con el crecimiento.  para ello se realiz\u00f3 una b\u00fasqueda diferencial en una genoteca de cdna de ecpicotilos de pl\u00e1ntulas estresadas. Se obtuvieron 51 clones de los cuales se seleccionaron los siguientes para un estudio m\u00e1s profundo:  -captltp: codifica para una l\u00edpido transferasa, aumenta en condiciones de estr\u00e9s, estar\u00eda relacionado con formaci\u00f3n de cut\u00edcula en estas condiciones.  -caplea-1 y caplea-2: codifican para prote\u00ednas abundantes en la embriog\u00e9nesis tard\u00eda, y participan en el secuestro de iones y protecci\u00f3n celular.  -capglx-1: codifica para una glioxalasa i y est\u00e1 claramante relacionada con las condiciones de estr\u00e9s salino y el da\u00f1o que pueda causar el componente i\u00f3nico.  -capxet: codifica para una xiloglucan endotranglicosilasa, se inhibe en condiciones de estr\u00e9s. Est\u00e1 claramente relacionado con la elongaci\u00f3n.  -cap28: codifica para una prote\u00edna de funci\u00f3n desconocida, se inhibe por estr\u00e9s.
