A tal efecto se aborda el tema analizando las condiciones historicas del periodo colonial mexicano y sus antecedentes europeos, especificamente el concilio de trento y sus consecuencias, tanto en lo religioso como en lo politico.  en esas circunstancias tuvieron lugar fundaciones como la \u00absociedad de jesus\u00bby el \u00aboratorio\u00bb de ignacio de loyola y felipe neri respectivamente, bajo cuya inspiraci\u00f3n tuvo lugar la formulaci\u00f3n del proyecto del padre alfaro para organizar una \u00abcasa de ejercicios\u00bb en un paraje apartado equivalente al desierto testamentario y evangelico.  mediante una recopilaci\u00f3n de documentos testimoniales de primera mano fue posible establecer que el monumento de atotonilco en lo general y particularmente la pintura de las bovedas, expone graficamente los tres elementos de meditaci\u00f3n de los ejercicios de su ignacio: los nov\u00edsios o postrimer\u00edas con especial enfasis en las penas del infierno, los milagros de jesus y el cielo de la pasi\u00f3n y la muerte.  como auxiliar grafico, el pintor se sirvi\u00f3 de la obra de geronimus natalis\u00bbevangelicae historiae\u00bb, realizado en 1593 con ilustraciones de marten
