Estos ratones, muestra unos niveles elevados de bgh e igf1 (factor de crecimiento insul\u00ednico 1) en suero y en edades adultas presentan dificultad de movimiento. Tambi\u00e9n hemos observado que el cart\u00edlago articular de estos ratones transg\u00e9nicos y el de pacientes con problemas osteoartr\u00edticos expresan la isoforma larga el receptor de prl y que su expresi\u00f3n es significativamente menor a la de un cart\u00edlago sano. Adem\u00e1s, hemos demostrado que la prl es un componente del l\u00edquido sinovial en humanos con una masa de 29 kda y que, en base a los datos obtenidos en rat\u00f3n, puede ser sintetizada en los condrocitos.  la funci\u00f3n de la prl en el cart\u00edlago la buscamos en la diferenciaci\u00f3n condral a partir de las c\u00e9lulas mesenquimales pluripotentes (msc). Hemos observado que las msc humanas, en cultivo de monocapa, expresan la isoforma intermedia, o embrionaria, del receptor de prl y que no expresan el transcrito de prl. sin embargo, son capaces de proliferar en ausencia de suero y presencia de prl de manera dependiente de dosis hasta una concentraci\u00f3n de 10 ng\/ml de hormona. Tambi\u00e9n hemos observado que, cuando las c\u00e9lulas se cultivan en agregados para provocar su diferenciaci\u00f3n condral, la expresi\u00f3n del receptor de prl cambia a la isoforma larga y se expresa la prl de origen extrapituitario, que es regulada negativamente por los glucocorticoides. adem\u00e1s, esta prl, junto con los glucocorticoides, promueven la disposici\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas en columnas, al igual que sucede en el cart\u00edlago articular. estos datos sugieren una acci\u00f3n del sistema prl-receptor de prl en los primeros estadios de la diferenciaci\u00f3n
