Se ha encontrado una correlaci\u00f3n directa entre la supervirulencia de la cepa a281 y la alta capacidad de transformaci\u00f3n de su derivada desarmada eha105. \u00e9sta es capaz de producir una transformaci\u00f3n estable en varios genotipos de c\u00edtricos hasta 22 veces mayor que la cepa desarmada de c58. Esta diferencia se ha atribuido a la alta inducci\u00f3n y expresi\u00f3n de los genes vir de ptibo542. La introducci\u00f3n de copias adicionales de virg de ptibo542 en la cepa c58 increment\u00f3 dr\u00e1sticamente la frecuencia de transformaci\u00f3n estable en c\u00edtricos, lo que sugiere que tanto la cantidad como la calidad de virg son determinantes en la capacidad de las cepas de agrobacterium para la transformaci\u00f3n de los c\u00edtricos.  se ha expresado de forma estable y por la primera vez en una especie le\u00f1osa, la prote\u00edna verde fluorescente (gfp) en plantas transg\u00e9nicas de diferentes especies de c\u00edtriocs. La utilizaci\u00f3n de esta prote\u00edna como marcador vital,permiti\u00f3 la pronta y f\u00e1cil selecci\u00f3n in vivo de los brotes transg\u00e9ncios y la discriminaci\u00f3n de los escpaes. Adem\u00e1s este marcador permitio la selecci\u00f3n de brotes transg\u00e9nicos en ausencia del agente de selecci\u00f3n (en nuestro caso la kanamicina). Esto abre la posibilidad de la obtenci\u00f3n de plantas transg\u00e9nicas sin la utilizaci\u00f3n de genes marcadores de selecci\u00f3n que confieren resistencia a antibi\u00f3ticos o herbic\u00eddas. Estas resistencias han sido siempre cuestionadas para la comercialiaci\u00f3n de plantas transg\u00e9nicas.  se ha conseguido establecer un procedimiento eficiente de transformaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de naranjo amargo. Este protocolo perimit\u00f3 incorporar el gen de la prote\u00edna de la c\u00e1psida de ctv en un n\u00famero suficiente de plantas para poder evaluar esta estrategia para conseguir protecci\u00f3n
