Estos derivados se han caracterizado electroquimicamente para comprobar si reunian las propiedades necesarias para actuar como mediadores redox de reductasas.  se han puesto a punto tres metodos de inmovilizacion de estos viologenos sobre electrodos. En cada uno de estos metodos se ha estudiado la compatibilidad del metodo con la incorporacion de enzimas, la transferencia electronica entre electrodo y enzima a traves de los viologenos inmovilizados y la deteccion del sustrato por parte del electrodo enzimatico.
