El calculo principal se basa en la suma de todos los cabales de neutralizacion, por medio de la funcion respuesta local density. Es la primera vez que se incluye el efecto de larga distancia de un plasmon de superficie como excitacion que lleva la energia de la transferencia del electron calculado. Como resultado se entiende mucho mejor las probabilidades de neutralizacion. Este mismo calculo ha dado lugar a una aproximacion valida cuando no se excitan plasmones, en la que se puede calcular los espectroes electronicos con un acuerdo excelente con el experimento. La tesis concluye calculando el efecto de las colisiones electron-electron dentro del solido que da lugar a casadas de electrones borrando toda la informacion que originariamente se creia que los espectros llevaban. De todas formas, la neutralizacion auger se ha probado puede seguir siendo una tecnica eficaz de caracterizacion de superficies metalicas cuando se emplean iones simplemente cargadas y la cantidad de
