La familia x est\u00e1 constituidad principalmente por las dna plimerasas beta y las desoxinuleotidil transferasas terminales (tdt).  pol beta es la enzima responsable de la reparaci\u00f3n del dna nuclear en eucariotas mediante le mecanismo de reparaci\u00f3n por excisi\u00f3n de una base (ber). Hemos clonado el gen codificante de la prote\u00edna dna pol beta delprotozoo par\u00e1sito leishmania infantum. El gen consta de 1131 pares de bases y codifica una prote\u00edna de 376 amino\u00e1cidos con una masa molecular estimada de 43kda.  se ha demostrado que la prote\u00edna est\u00e1 codificada por un gen de copia \u00fanica y transcribe un mensajero de 1200 nule\u00f3tidos. Los niveles tanto de mensajero como de prote\u00edna var\u00edan peri\u00f3dicamente a lo largo del ciclo del par\u00e1sito. Se ha expresado la prote\u00edna por cromatograf\u00eda de afinidad en columnas de agarosa cargada con n\u00edquel.  la prote\u00edna purificada ha sido utilizada para la obtenci\u00f3n de un antisuero policlonal en conejo. El suero ha sido utilizado en ensayos de localizaci\u00f3npor inmunofluorescencia mostrando una localizaci\u00f3n nuclear de pol beta, si bien el patr\u00f3n de localizaci\u00f3n var\u00eda a lo largo del ciclo vital del par\u00e1sito. se ha ensayado la actividad dna polimerasa insitu de la prote\u00edna recombinante, as\u00ed como el fragmento catal\u00edtico obtenido por la degradaci\u00f3n proteol\u00edtica de la prote\u00edna completa. Se ha desarrollado unmodelo molecular par la dna polmersa beta de leishmania infantum que muestra la estrucura en forma de mano caracter\u00edstica com\u00fan de todas las
