Se han analizado tambi\u00e9n lso factores que controlan la distribuci\u00f3n de estos dos elementos en el bentos a lo largo del gradiente fluvial.  en el r\u00edo ag\u00ed\u00bcera (vizcaya\/cantabria) las concentraciones de nitr\u00f3geno y f\u00f3sforo en el ventos dependen fundamentalmente del tipod e vegetaci\u00f3n riparia, d ela retentividad del cauce, de las variaciones de caudal y de las concnetraciones de estos elementos en el agua. Las plantacion de eucaliptos modifican la periodicidad de los aportes d emateria org\u00e1nica y reducen las concentraciones de estos dos elementos en el agua. En una palntaci\u00f3n de eucaliptos tambi\u00e9n se reducen los aportes totales de estos nutrientes y la diversidad de especies de hojas presentes en el cauce. En el ag\u00ed\u00bcera, los aportes de nitr\u00f3geno y de f\u00f3sforo en la horasca son una peque\u00f1a fracci\u00f3n de los aportes totales de estos dos elementos al r\u00edo.  si la disponibilidad de nitr\u00f3geno y de f\u00f3sforo en el agua es alta, la materia org\u00e1nica act\u00faa como sumidero, reteniendo estos dos elementos en el bentos. Aunque este proceso tiene poca importancia en el balance anual de nitr\u00f3geno y de f\u00f3sforo, la retenci\u00f3n de nutrientes repercute en la calidad de la materia org\u00e1ncia bent\u00f3nica.
