En dos dimensiones el teorema de poincare-bendixon permite demostrar existencia de \u00f3rbitas cerradas orbitalmente estables bajo condiciones bastante generales. En tres dimensiones solo han aparecido resultados parciales en estos \u00faltimos anos. En esta tesis se pretende hacer aportaciones nuevas en este campo.  en primer lugar, utilizamos los resultados de m. Hirsch y h. Smith sobre sistemas competitivos para definir una nueva clase de sistemas para la cual existe un principio de reducci\u00f3n de la dimensi\u00f3n, y obtener el correspondiente resultado de existencia de \u00f3rbitas cerradas orbitalmente estables. Como consecuencia deducimos que el trabajo sobre estabilidad orbital de r. A. smith se puede deducir, en el caso tres-dimensional, de la teor\u00eda general de sistemas mon\u00f3tonos.  en segundo lugar, estudiamos sistemas para los cuales no existe un principio de reducci\u00f3n de la dimensi\u00f3n. Para estos sistemas obtenemos resultados de existencia de \u00f3rbitas cerradas orbitalmente (asint\u00f3ticamente) estables usando teor\u00eda de grado topol\u00f3gico.  finalmente aplicamos nuestros
