Dentro de los factores implicados en el engrosamiento de la pared vascular, el sistema renina-angiotensina (sra) juega un importante papel. La rata transgenica para el gen ren-2 de renina de raton (tgr) constituye un nuevo modelo genetico de hipertension obtenido a partir de la cepa normotensa sprague-dawley (sd). Las arterias femorales de estos animales hipertensos se encuentran engrosadas en relacion con las correspondientes arterias de sd. Las celulas musculares lisas (cml) en cultivo de las ratas tgr proliferan mas deprisa en respuesta al suero fetal que las cml de sd. El sra no parece estar implicado directamente en proceso.  por otra parte, las cml de tgr son hipertroficas en condiciones basales con respecto de las cml de sd. Esto parece ser debido a la produccion de angiotensina ii en los cultivos de tgr como consecuencia de la presencia del gen ren-2 en el genoma celular. Por tanto, el engrosamiento de la pared de las arterias femorales de tgr parece ser fundamentalmente debido a fenomenos de hipertrofia celular.  el endotelio juega un importante papel como regulador del crecimiento del musculo liso. Asi, las celulas endoteliales de aorta de bovino son capaces de liberar tanto promotores como inhibidores del crecimiento de las cml. El vasoconstricor endotelina-1 actua como promotor del crecimiento mientras que vasodilatadores como el oido nitrico y la prostaciclina tienen propiedades antiproliferativas. El efecto neto del endotelio sobre el musculo liso vascular depende en ultimo termino del balance existente entre promotores e inhibidores del crecimiento.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
