El tratamiento biol\u00f3gico es la alternativa m\u00e1s utilizada a escala industrial para llevar a cabo la depuraci\u00f3n de esta agua. En este trabajo se ha tratado de determinar la posibilidad de reducir, eficazmente, la carga contaminante de esta agua residuales operando en reactores discontinuo secuenciales(rds). Incialmente, se ha constatado la viabilidad de este tratamiento para la depuraci\u00f3n de un agua residual sint\u00e9tica de caracter\u00edsticas similares a las de las aguas reales, mostr\u00e1ndose el sistema rds muy eficaz para la eliminaci\u00f3n de los compuestos espec\u00edficos de esta agua cuando se opera con bajas intensidades de carga, inferiores a 0,2 kg dqo\/kg sst d\u00eda. No obstante, al aumentar la intensidad de carga se observa un deterioro en el proceso de degradaci\u00f3n que afecta especialmente al tiocianato.  el fenol es el compuesto m\u00e1s abundante de las aguas de coquer\u00eda, por tanto caracterizar su degradaci\u00f3n y determinar la cin\u00e9tica del proceso es importante a la hora de dise\u00f1ar plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales de coquer\u00eda. En este trabajo se ha encontrado que es posible la degradaci\u00f3n de fenol en concentraciones cercanas a 1000 mg\/l trabajando con tiempos hidr\u00e1ulicos de residencia de solo 18 horas y se ha observado que la velocidad m\u00e1xima de degradaci\u00f3n de fenol por un lodo bacteriano operando en un rds depende de la concentraci\u00f3n de fenol al comienzo de cada ciclo, observ\u00e1ndose un descenso muy pronunciado de la velocidad m\u00e1xima de degradaci\u00f3n con el aumento de la concentraci\u00f3n. Por otra parte, se ha caracterizado la degradaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica del tiocianato, compuesto m\u00e1s problem\u00e1tico a la hora de abordar la degradaci\u00f3n de las aguas residuales, partiendo
