Dentro de este grupo, destacan las 1-bencil-1,2,3,4-tetrahidroisoquinoleinas(bthiqs) puesto que, a partir de ellas se biosintetizan diversos an\u00e1logos estructurales como protoberberinas, aporfinas, bisbencilisoquinole\u00ednas, cularinas, etc. los alcaloides bthiqs se forman biogen\u00e9ticamente a partir del amino\u00e1cido l-tirosina, mediante la condensaci\u00f3n de una mol\u00e9cula de dopamina con p-hidroxifenilacetaldehido siguiendo una reacci\u00f3n de tipo pictet-spengler dando lugar al primer intermediario(s)-norcoclaurina. debido al control enzim\u00e1tico durante las transformaciones biosint\u00e9ticas, estos alcaloides se encuentran en la naturaleza como compuestos enantiom\u00e9ricamente puros y estudios previos de actividad farmacol\u00f3gica a distintos niveles, han revelado la importancia de una configuraci\u00f3n absoluta apropiada, en ocasiones necesaria para producir el efecto farmacol\u00f3gico deseado. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se han desarrollado diversas estrategias en la preparaci\u00f3n esteroselectiva de estructuras thiqs sustituidas habitualmente en la posicion 1.
