En general la dct se considera la mejor herramienta para la codificaci\u00f3n digital de una imagen. El c\u00e1lculo de la transformada dct puede efectuarse computando producjtos matriz-vector, conlo que la complejidad, para secuencias de datos de tama\u00f1o fijo puede cuantificarse en un cierto n\u00famero de productos y otro de sumas.  el sistema num\u00e9rico de residuos (rns: residue number system) se ha convertido en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os en una alternativa a los esquemas aritm\u00e9ticos convencionales para el procesamiento paralelo de datos enteros. Por su propia naturales, este sistema de numeraci\u00f3n implica la posibilidad de realizar sumas, restas y multiplicaciones de manera paralela y lebre de acarreos; de este modo, el rns permite una implementaci\u00f3n paralela  y extremadamente sencilla de los algoritmos m\u00e1s usuales de procesamiento digital de se\u00f1ales.  en consecuencia, la presente tesis doctoral aborda la implementaci\u00f3n de estructuras para la realizaci\u00f3n de la dct utilizando el rns sobre dispositivos programables. La utilizaci\u00f3n del rns para la implementaci\u00f3n eficiente de algorimos de procesamiento de se\u00f1al ha sido un tema de investigaci\u00f3n en los \u00faltimos 25 a\u00f1os, dadas las ventajas que se derivan del uso de la aritm\u00e9tica de residuos para algoritmos basados en un gran n\u00famero de sumas y productos. por otra parte, la aparici\u00f3n de las nuevas familias de dispositivos programables ha hecho posible la inclusi\u00f3n en un solo chip de aplicaciones completas de procesamiento de se\u00f1al conprestaciones muy elevadas. La utilizaci\u00f3nde estas tecnolog\u00edas para laimpolementaci\u00f3nd e la dct es un brillante idea que, como se demuestra en esta tesisim puede conducir a resultados muys satisfactorios y congran aplicabilidad pr\u00e1ctica.
