Estos islotes son agregados multicelulares de tejido endocrino y est\u00e1n constituidos por varios tipos celulares.El elevado grado de organizaci\u00f3n estructural y funcional del islote,incluye una profusa invervaci\u00f3n y vascularizaci\u00f3n que facilitan su funci\u00f3n endocrina. Del 70 al 90% de la poblaci\u00f3n total  del islote esta constituida por c\u00e9lulas beta. Estas c\u00e9lulas son las principales responsables del control de la glucemia, ya que son capaces de responder a los auemtnos de glucosa con la secreci\u00f3n de la hormona insulina, \u00fanica hormona capaz de diminuir los niveles de glucosa en sangre. El potencial de membrana en reposo de las c\u00e9lulas beta se mantiene gracias a las aperturas del canal k-atp, este canal se cierra al aumentar las concentraciones itnracelulares de atp y es el principal responsable en el acoplamiento est\u00edmulo-secreci\u00f3n. el descubrimiento de este canal permiti\u00f3 describir el modelo cl\u00e1sico del acoplamiento est\u00edmulo-secreci\u00f3n. Seg\u00fan este modelo la glucosa entra en el interior de la c\u00e9lula se metaboliza, aumentando la concentraci\u00f3n de atp intracelular, cerrando los canales k-atp y despolarizando la c\u00e9lula.Esta despolarizaic\u00f3n abre los canales de calcio dependientes de votlaje, disparando la secreci\u00f3n de insulina. En la presente memoria de tesis se describe que los dinucle\u00f3tidos ap4a y ap3a, y la hormona 17 beta estradiol, modulan la actividad de canal katp presente en la membrana de la c\u00e9lula beta, lo que les capacita para actuar como reguladores en el acoplamiento est\u00edmulo-secreci\u00f3n de este tipo celular. El ap4a, aplicado intracelularmente en parches de membrana de c\u00e9lula beta, produce uan inhibici\u00f3n de la actividad del canal katp con una eficacia equivalente a la del atp, considerado como
