Dentro de los receptores metabotr\u00f3picos del glutamato(mglurs) se distinguen tres grupos clasificados seg\u00fan la secuencia de amino\u00e1cidos, los segundos mensajeros asociados y a los agonistas selectivos.  en este estudio en el cerebelo de la rata, se han utilizado anticuerpos espec\u00edficos frente a subtipos de receptores metabotr\u00f3picos del glutamato en combinaci\u00f3n con t\u00e9cnicas inmunocitoqu\u00edmicas para microscop\u00eda \u00f3ptima y electr\u00f3nica. La isoforma 1b del receptor mglur1 presenta un marcado inmunocitoqu\u00edmico semejante al de la variante la, con una disposici\u00f3n persin\u00e1ptica en las espinas dendr\u00edticas de las c\u00e9lulas de purkinje. Sin embargo, mglur1b se caracteriza por su abundante localizaci\u00f3n extrasin\u00e1ptica a lo largo de la membrana. Por otro lado, el receptor mglur4a aparece en las membranas presin\u00e1pticas de los terminales de las fibras paralelas distribuido en grupos separados por una distancia constante de 66 nan\u00f3metro.  el receptor mglur1 es necesario en la inducci\u00f3n de la depresi\u00f3n de larga duracion, que es la base celular del aprendizaje motor. A su vez, el receptor mglur4 esta involucrado en la habilidad para aprender determinadas tareas motoras coimplejas.  la localizaci\u00f3n subcelular de los receptores metabotr\u00f3picos del glutamato
