Se muestra que existe un marcado dimorfismo sexual de arginina en plasma, ri\u00f1\u00f3n y m\u00fasculo esquel\u00e9tico, siendo las concentraciones de arginina de las hembras superiores a las de los machos. Igualmente se demuestra que existe un dimorfismo sexual en arginasa, oxido n\u00edtrico sintasa y ornitina a partir de arginina es la misma en ambos sexos. Los resultados descartan la existencia de arginina descarboxilasa en ri\u00f1\u00f3n de rat\u00f3n, enzima que participa en la bios\u00edntesis de pliaminas en bacterias y plantas y que se ha postulado recientemente como responsable de la s\u00edtnesis de agmatina en cerebro y ri\u00f1\u00f3n de rata. Tambi\u00e9n se ha demostrado que la eliminaci\u00f3n de la arginina de la dieta disminuye la actividad renal de muchas de las enzimas del metablismo de arginina que presentan dimorfismo sexual, afectando asimismo al peso corporal y renal de ratones machos, concluy\u00e9ndose que la arinina de la dieta es requerida para la acci\u00f3na nab\u00f3lica de los andr\u00f3genos. los resultados tambi\u00e9n de muestran que la suplementaci\u00f3n de la dieta con arginina disminuye le crecimiento de melanomas b16 en ratones c57b\/6j ejerciendo adem\u00e1s marcadas acciones anticaqu\u00e9xicas.
