Jose <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>En 1987 se instaur\u00f3 en el principado de asturias el programa regional de diagn\u00f3stico prenatal de los defectos del cierre del tubo neuronal(dtns). desde entonces se han estudiado m\u00e1s de 70.000 embarazos, alcanz\u00e1ndose un alto grado de participaci\u00f3n de las gestantes. El an\u00e1lisis de los hallazgos observados en el programa de cribado con clfafetoprote\u00edna en suero materno(afpsm), ha permitido modificar el protocolo establecido inicialmente, consiguiendo optimizar el programa. Asimismo, se ha determinado la sensibilidad, especificidad y eficiencia del programa del cribado con afpsm y se ha efectuado un seguimiento de la incidencia y preValencia de este tipo de malformaciones en asturias, durante los doce a\u00f1os que comprende el estudio (1987-1998).  por otra parte, se ha descrito que las gestantes con niveles elevados de afpsm, durante el segundo trimestre de gestaci\u00f3n, presentan un mayor riesgo de desarrollar complicaciones obst\u00e9tricas y resultados perinatales adversos. Por ello se realiz\u00f3 un estudio de cohortes hist\u00f3ricas de las gestantes que hab\u00edan participado en el programa de cribado con afpsm, estudiando la informaci\u00f3n acerca del pron\u00f3stico fetal que se desprend\u00eda de los resultados obtenidos en el programa de cribado con afpsm. Este estudio ha confirmado que la elevaci\u00f3n de este par\u00e1metro bioqu\u00edmico durante el segundo trimestre de gestaci\u00f3n, pod\u00eda ser considerada como un factor de riesto positivo para parto pret\u00e9rmino, reci\u00e9n nacido con bajo peso, reci\u00e9n nacido muerto y, especialmente, aborto espont\u00e1neo.
