Al manejar un conjunto de parametros, se habla de toda una matriz de varianzas y covarianzas. Una matriz puede ser minimizada de distintas maneras, y es por eso que existen diferentes criterios de optimizacion (determinante, traza, maximo valor propio, etc.) El presente trabajo se ocupa esencialmente de la creaci\u00f3n de una nueva clase de criterios de optimizaci\u00f3n, llamados criterios caracteristicos, que se basan en los coeficientes del polinomio caracteristico de la matriz de covarianzas. dicha familia engloba dos de los criterios mas utilizados, el del determinante y el de la traza, e incluso puede ser generalizada a una clase mas general de criterios que comprender\u00eda tanto los criterios caracteristicos como alguna de la familias cl\u00e1sicas. Se estudian y demuestran algunas de las principales propiedades de los coeficientes caracteristicos y de las nuevas funciones criterio, entre las que destacan la convexidad y diferenciabilidad, con el calculo explicito de su gradiente. Los optimos caracteristicos pueden verse como los dise\u00f1os que minimizan el promedio de las regiones de confianza de grupos de parametros. Las propiedades que verifican las funciones permitiran la utilizacion de los algoritmos generales para la busqueda de los dise\u00f1os optimos respecto de los nuevos criterios.  se calculan dise\u00f1os optimos caracteristicos para distintos modelos: polin\u00f3mico, exponencial y compartimental. Finalmente se propone un metodo novedoso para la obtenci\u00f3n de soportes aproximados de dise\u00f1os optimos caracteristicos para modelos polin\u00f3micos.
