Durante la polimerizacion puede ocurrir la imidacion del polimero en una extension que depende tanto de la polaridad del disolvente como de la naturaleza de la cadena lateral.  los poli(b-l-aspartato)s son estables hasta temperaturas superiores a los 200c y la descomposicion ocurre en dos etapas bien diferenciadas. Todos los polimeros obtenidos adoptan conformaciones helicoidales donde la inclinacion del grupo amida es mayor que en el caso de las helices x.  mientras que los poli (b-l-aspartato)s con cadenas lateralesalifaticas de cuatro miembros o menos presentan polimorfismo cristalino, los polimeros con cadenas alquilicas lineales de mas de 12 carbonos muestran una estructura bifasica en la que las
