Entre las posibles aplicaciones posibles de estos materiales, el trabajo se ha centrado en la optimizacion de las propiedades relacionadas con la aplicaci\u00f3n como recubrimiento de las propiedades relacionadas con la aplicaci\u00f3n como recubrimiento duro de las capas den herramientas de corte (dureza, bajo coeficiente de friccion y alta estabilidad termica.)  las capas han sido obtenidas mediante un sistema de evaporacion asistido con un haz de iones concurrente durante el crecimiento (ibad). El trabajo se divide en la preparacion y caracterizacion de capas de carbono amorfo (a-c), nitruro de carbono amorfo (a-cnx) y compuestos ternarios b-c-n.  la caracterizacion de  las capas se ha realizado fundamentalmente con tecnicas de analisis con haces de iones (rbs, erda y tof-erda) para el estudio de la composici\u00f3n, espectroscopia de absorcion de rayos-x cerca del borde (xanes) para el estudio de la estructura de enlace y, finalmente, mediante nanoindentacion para caracterizar las propiedades mecanicas de las capas.  las capas de a-c y a-cnx muestran un car\u00e1cter grafitico dominante con una dureza elevada (20 gpa). Este resultado se explica debido a la formacion de una superestructura, en donde los planos grafiticos estan corrugados y entrelazados. En cuanto a las capas ternarias, se han identificado con \u00e9xito compuestos ternarios bcn, tanto con estructura cubica como hexagonal. en este caso, se ha obtenido durezas de hasta 35 gpa,
